Moving Atoms vs Pointfuse

Pointfuse converts point clouds into lightweight, segmented meshes that can be classified and exported to IFC. Moving Atoms delivers a finished model with every object separated. Here is where each fits.

Short answer

Pointfuse is a good fit when a lightweight, classified mesh is enough, for example for facilities management or quick reference models you produce yourself. Moving Atoms fits when you need every object as a measured, editable element in Revit and IFC, delivered within 48 hours.

What Pointfuse does

Pointfuse's engine turns point clouds into a segmented mesh model. It detects planar surfaces, separates them into layers, and lets users label elements against a classification structure, with a wizard that maps surfaces to the IFC schema. Exported IFC or FBX keeps that classification. Its Simple BIM add-on converts classified meshes into groups such as walls, floors, doors and windows for downstream BIM and FM tools, and trade press notes how much smaller the mesh is than the original cloud.

How Moving Atoms works

Moving Atoms is a Scan to BIM service, not a modeling tool you operate. You upload your scan from any scanner (E57, LAS/LAZ, PLY, RCP/RCS, PTS/PTX, FLS, LGSx, meshes or a zipped project, up to 200 GB per file, resumable in the browser), choose the level of development you need, and within 48 hours every object comes back separated, measured and editable, in Revit, IFC, STEP, USD or GLB. For sites that cannot send data out, the conversion can run on-site so the scan never leaves the building. You can open finished examples, including Revit downloads, in our LiDAR samples.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pointfuse produce Revit families?

Pointfuse produces classified meshes exported to IFC or FBX, and its Simple BIM add-on converts them into wall, floor, door and window groups. Moving Atoms delivers native Revit and IFC objects.
