Cyclone 3DR is the better tool for surveyors who inspect, measure and compare scans against design, often on Leica hardware. Moving Atoms is for teams who need the existing-conditions model itself: separated objects in Revit and IFC within 48 hours.
What Cyclone 3DR does
Leica lists domain workflows for AEC, survey and tank inspection, including scan-to-plan, clash analysis, a building extractor and cross-section analysis. It includes a JavaScript environment for automating tasks, with preloaded scripts for feature extraction. For BIM, Leica highlights interoperability with IFC and Revit files for working with existing design models, and BCF export to share inspection and clash results with the wider BIM ecosystem.
How Moving Atoms works
Moving Atoms is a Scan to BIM service, not a modeling tool you operate. You upload your scan from any scanner (E57, LAS/LAZ, PLY, RCP/RCS, PTS/PTX, FLS, LGSx, meshes or a zipped project, up to 200 GB per file, resumable in the browser), choose the level of development you need, and within 48 hours every object comes back separated, measured and editable, in Revit, IFC, STEP, USD or GLB. For sites that cannot send data out, the conversion can run on-site so the scan never leaves the building. You can open finished examples, including Revit downloads, in our LiDAR samples.
Side by side
| Leica Cyclone 3DR | Moving Atoms | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Point cloud software you operate | A service that delivers the model |
| Best at | Inspection, deviation analysis, scan-to-plan, clash analysis | Full existing-conditions models with every object separated |
| BIM connection | Reads IFC/Revit for comparison; BCF export of results | Delivers native Revit, IFC, STEP, USD and GLB |
| Who models | Your operator | Our pipeline and team |
| Turnaround | Depends on your team | Within 48 hours |
When Cyclone 3DR is the better choice
- Your job is inspection or deviation analysis against a design model.
- You produce plans and sections from scans and want scripting to automate it.
When Moving Atoms is the better choice
- You need a complete, editable BIM model of existing conditions.
- You want it fast and in several formats, without operating point cloud software.
Using both
Leica scans work as input to Moving Atoms (LGSx or E57). Once you have our model, Cyclone 3DR remains a good tool to compare it with the cloud or a design.
Send us a scan and get separated, editable Revit and IFC objects back within 48 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Can Cyclone 3DR export a Revit model?
Leica highlights IFC and Revit interoperability for comparing scans with design models, plus BCF export of inspection results. A full existing-conditions Revit model is typically still modeled by an operator.
Do you accept Leica scans?
Yes, including Leica LGSx projects and E57 exports, up to 200 GB per file.
