Moving Atoms vs FARO As-Built for Revit

FARO As-Built for Autodesk Revit brings point cloud modeling tools into Revit. Moving Atoms delivers the model itself. The right choice depends on whether you want better tools for your modelers or no modeling at all.

Short answer

FARO As-Built is a strong choice if your team models in Revit and wants faster tools and accuracy checks there. Moving Atoms is for teams that want a finished, separated model from any scanner within 48 hours.

What FARO As-Built for Revit does

FARO describes As-Built for Autodesk Revit as a plug-in for processing laser scan data directly inside Revit. It provides tools to model ground surfaces, walls, doors, windows, columns, beams, roofs and pipe runs from the cloud, lets you apply constraints (for example keeping accuracy while forcing a watertight model), and analyzes surfaces against Levels of Accuracy defined by the U.S. Institute of Building Documentation. It is sold standalone or in the As-Built suite with the AutoCAD version.

How Moving Atoms works

Moving Atoms is a Scan to BIM service, not a modeling tool you operate. You upload your scan from any scanner (E57, LAS/LAZ, PLY, RCP/RCS, PTS/PTX, FLS, LGSx, meshes or a zipped project, up to 200 GB per file, resumable in the browser), choose the level of development you need, and within 48 hours every object comes back separated, measured and editable, in Revit, IFC, STEP, USD or GLB. For sites that cannot send data out, the conversion can run on-site so the scan never leaves the building. You can open finished examples, including Revit downloads, in our LiDAR samples.

Frequently asked questions

Does FARO As-Built create a Revit model automatically?

It speeds up modeling inside Revit with tools for walls, pipes, structure and more, and checks accuracy, but a modeler drives the work.

Can Moving Atoms process FARO scans?

Yes. Upload FARO .fls projects or exported E57 and we deliver Revit and IFC within 48 hours.
